Yesterday was quite the day....

Kendall needed blood work done so we went to a U of M lab in Northville that we go to when she doesn't need to go to Ann Arbor. 1st poke- not successful.

2nd poke (in between 2 knuckles)- successful but very traumatic for Kendall

We leave there and were almost home and got a call from the cardiology team at U of M of a critical lab value and they wanted it redrawn immediately. The lab report was a high potassium level which can be very dangerous to your heart even if you have not had heart issues or transplant. The test result also showed that the blood was clotted in the tube so it was most likely a false reading. Since she wasn't showing any signs of distress/cardiac symptoms, a blood redraw order was faxed to a local lab.

I took her to that lab and explained the critical nature of the redraw because it would determine if she needed to go to the hospital. They had a full waiting room and 1 lab technician so I decided to leave there and take her to another lab across the street. I called ahead and told them what was going on and they said they would make her a priority when we got there.

We got there a few minutes later and unfortunately they poked her 4 times and could not get any blood. By this time Kendall is hysterical, upset, and over it to the point it took a long time to call her down. (I was secretly crying so she couldn't see me) I hate this happens to her so much.

I called the doctor back and she gave us the option of going to Motts hospital ER or coming to Motts today to the clinic. Kendall did not want to go to the hospital after all that she just went through so we had to watch her for signs and symptoms of chest pain, shortness of breath, irregular heart beat etc......at home. Everything went well yesterday evening and through the night.

This morning we took her to U of M and she had her blood drawn (2 pokes) and then had an EKG.

Her potassium came back normal and EKG was normal as well.

Whew. It was tough seeing her sad and upset like this but the outcome was good and we are thankful.

Since she will have more frequent blood draws again I asked her if she would like to start seeing the psychologist again and she said yes.

--EBV results take a few days to come back so I will let you know the results on the next update.

Our prayers are continuing to be answered
