Time flies. Especially when things are not only happening to you but your family and friends also.
I didn't look back at the last post so bear with me if this is a repeat of anything.
April 17th--Kendall had an appointment with Dr McGrath who is her hematologist/oncologist. Basically she is the specialist that has been following Kendall regarding her enlarged spleen.
--On the physical assessment Kendall did not have any signs of pain. The results of the CT scan of her spleen was stable and slightly decreased in size. Dr McGraft feels good that no changes need to be made at this time. She will just continue to monitor according to symptoms and every 6 months.
Oncologist- Kendall's Epstein Barr Virus values have been trending slightly upwards. The Doctor said that EBV will always be present in her blood so if she is exposed to anyone that has any kind of virus that she comes in contact with, her levels may trend upwards because of her immune system but as long as she has no symptoms we will continue to monitor. (in the last few weeks her viral levels have gone from 200s to 4000+) She will have her blood drawn every 2 weeks until the levels go back down.
Oncologist visit after blood draw- order placed in the system that Kendalls blood will only be drawn from the IV team that can use an ultrasound to find her veins so she won't be poked so much. Hallelujah
Future appointments:
June 3rd- blood work
June 10th- An 8 hour appointment with a Neuropsychologist program team from 8am-4pm.
We need to have this evaluation done before she turns 18 so that we have proof to the court system that she cannot live alone and take care of herself. She definitely can do many things on her own but there are crucial areas that she needs assistance with.
June 18th- Routine appointment with ENT. They have seen her several times but they have to evaluate her and note any changes in her airway because of the vocal cords being paralyzed. The ways this affects her is her voice is a whisper and takes a breath after saying 2-3 words. In their professional opinion to do any surgery on her vocal cords can cause more harm instead of correction. We are good with how everything is right now. Surgery is off the table.
June 22nd- Follow up visit with diabetic doctor. Because Kendall was on insulin last year. Her high blood sugars was the result of her being on high dose steroids but she still has to see this doctor to make sure her levels are good and under control after being off a steroids.
I know this is a long post. There's more to share but I will put it in another post.
Virtual school is done for this school year! Woot Woot. God bless the educators that love what they do. Whether it is in a school setting, virtual, or home school I love yall for real. You have a gift. Because chile.......these classes are not like anything we were taught in school so we are going through it together. It's a lot but we have a great support team from Oakland Schools and the Avondale School District. Educators need to be paid wwwwaaaaaaaayyyy more than what they are paid!!!!
Kendall will be a high school senior in the Fall. OMG. I can't believe we have a Senior.
