The phone call...

On my last post I stated Kendall had a heart catheter procedure on Friday January 16th. On Tuesday January 20th I received a call from the transplant team stating there was some moderate rejection cells in the heart biopsy and they wanted her to be admitted into the hospital ASAP to begin a steroid regimen. It's crazy because there were no clues looking at her to tell what was going on in her body.

So we got to the ER around 3p and this started Day 1 of a 3 day IV steroid treatment.

Plan- Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday steroid treatment

Had an ECHO to look at heart function

Cardiac transplant doctor said the samples that were sent to pathology of the right side of the heart showed moderate rejection. To be on the safe side the treatment of steroids was made. They didn't want to keep her on long term steroids to prevent previous steroid induced diabetes like last year.

Will have to have another heart cath procedure/biopsy in February to make sure the steroids and increase in immunosuppressant worked.

**Increasing immunosuppressant medication protects the heart which is great but it also decreases Kendall's body to fight viruses. It's a balance of medications and blood work to decide from week to week the medication dosage she should be on.

The donors heart (Brady) is still strong and healthy and was not rejecting because of anything she was exposed to (flu, colds, viruses) etc.. Sometimes you never get an answer.. Kendall will have to have frequent blood work done until everything is stable.

Upcoming appointments:

Monday January 26th-- lab work

february 5th---oncology doctor

february 12th-kresge eye appointment(yearly)

february 18th- repeat cardiac cath at Motts

march 17th- CT scan of spleen

march 18th-lung doctor

march 20th- spleen specialist doctor for plan of care for surgery/observation

There are a few appointments that are not listed above. They have been rescheduled and I have to verify dates.

As always thank you for the continuous support for Kendall and our family. We love and appreciate all of you.....
